College IDs

Each student, faculty and staff member must obtain a photo identification card.  Your College ID Card:

  • Identifies you as a member of the Gateway community;
  • Must be presented to staff when requeste;
  • Must be used to borrow books from the library;
  • Is required for access to parking in the Gateway Garage, and may also be used to enter the Temple Street Garage;
  • Is required for admission to college-sponsored activities and special events.

The college ID is property of the State of Connecticut and privileges may be revoked according to Board of Regents policy.

Please treat your ID card with care. Holes, creases, and other damage will make the card inoperable. Do not bend the card or leave it in direct sunlight, near other sources of heat, or in contact with magnetic fields.

ALL ID's (except New first-time students) are processed at the lower level of the North Building: N008

Hours:  Monday-Friday: 8am-3pm, Closed 12:30-1:00pm daily for lunch    Wednesday: extended hours until 7pm

New Students are given their Gateway ID Card during the New Student Advising & Registration (NSAR) program.  In order to receive an ID card, students will be required to show the following (with no exceptions):

  • A valid form of photo ID, including:
    • Passport (USA or International) Driver’s License (USA Only) State Issued (Non-driver) ID US Military ID
    • INS ID (Green card) Employee ID with Photo School ID with Photo

If an ID card is lost, stolen, or damaged, individuals should park in the Temple Street Garage, obtain parking validation from the college, and get a replacement ID card from Gateway Security that day.

  • Lost, stolen or damaged ID cards should be reported immediately to Gateway Security, 203-285-2611.
  • Replacement cards are available at the main security station on the first floor North during college business hours.
  • To obtain a replacement college ID card, you must go in person to ID Center: Lower Level North Building, Room 008. For security purposes, an official form of photo identification, such as a driver’s license or passport, is required (see list above).
  • When an ID card is lost, stolen, or no longer functions, the Security Office issues a replacement card with the photograph on record.

Malfunctioning ID cards that are returned to the Security Office are replaced at no charge. Lost, stolen, or deliberately damaged cards are replaced at a fee of $10 to be collected at the time of replacement.

When you obtain a Gateway ID it takes approximately 24-48 hours before it is downloaded into the New Haven Parking Authority system. If you  have any difficulties in the Temple Street Garage please pull a ticket and security will validate it. This pertains only to the Temple Street Garage, not the Gateway Garage.

Transfer students new to Gateway are receive their card at the lower level of the North Building, Room N0008 from 9 am-4 pm Monday-Friday, and until 7pm Wednesdays. The ID center is closed from 12:30-1 pm daily for lunch break.  In order to receive an ID card, students will be required to show the following (with no exceptions):

  • Their current registration/bill
  • A valid form of photo ID, including:
  • Passport (USA or International) Driver’s License (USA Only) State Issued (Non-driver) ID US Military ID
  • INS ID (Green card) Employee ID with Photo School ID with Photo
